1. Introduction

Since its creation in the beginning of the 80s, "Filmmaker" has supported research, experimentation and innovation in Italian audio-visual production and has presented the best of the independent production. During the latest editions the programme has been opened itself to the international panorama, with a special attention to creative documentaries. This year "Filmmaker" organises the third edition of the international competitive section for films of every genre, standard and length which deal with the subject of WORK AND SOCIAL ISSUES.

This initiative is carried out by "Filmmaker" in co-operation with CGIL-CISL-UIL (Trade Unions)Lombardy, the Archdiocese of Milan and is supported by the Lombardy Region, the Province of Milan, the City of Milan, the Department of Culture of Italian Government and the European Commission (Media Program II )and sponsors.


2. General program information

Next "Filmmaker" edition will be held in Autumn/ Winter (November-December) 2001 and it will feature the three main sections among others:

* international competition for films dealing with WORK AND SOCIAL THEMES

* An international non competitive section, called FUORI FORMATO, for films related to the areas of creative documentary, film essay, author's short films, archive film.

* A monographic section wich in the last years was dedicated to singles authors (as Johan van der Keuken and Frederick Wiseman) or to the history of the cinema (Paul Strand, Film and Photo League).


3. International Competition WORK AND SOCIAL THEMES

* Conditions of eligibility
Entry to competition is open to Italian and foreign films and videos (fiction, documentary, film essay, archive film....) completed after December 31, 1998. Works may be of any lenght(short, medium, feature film), in 35mm and 16mm, or video Betacam, 3/4" U-matic HighBand (1/2" VHS will be exceptionally accepted).
Works previously screened in any way in Italy are eligible.


* Films and video registration
Registration is free of charge. A registration form, duly filled out and signed, must be sent by September 10, 2001 to "Filmmaker" shipping address together with a 1/2" VHS (PAL)copy of the film entered.


* Selection
Festival selection of entries is final and binding. "Filmmaker" will nominate a jury which will award the prize.
All the works admitted to the festival must be sent in their original standard along with the following documentation:
- bio-filmography of the director;
- a short synopsis of the story (max 10 lines);
- complete dialogue list in Italian or English or French for non-italian works;
- a set of stills;
- a statement of the director about the film.


* Prizes
The jury will allow the following prizes :
1st Prize 10 millions lire
and 
2 other Prizes 2,5 millions lire each (preferably to first works).
A Prize, awarded by TV broadcaster 'PLANETE', for a young Italian filmmaker.


* Transportation and Insurance Conditions
Shipping costs to and from Milan will be covered by the entrant except when no other agreements have been made with Board of "Filmmaker".
The entrant will cover any shipping insurance policy. Films and videos will be covered by an insurance policy underwritten by "Filmmaker" only during the days of the festival. In case of misplacement or damage, the festival organisers will be only responsible for the cost of reprinting a copy according to current Italian rates.


* General Rules
Application for entry to the festival and participation of selected works constitute unconditional agreements to all regulations herein. The board of "Filmmaker" reserves the right to make decisions on matters not specified herein.
